My Story: RIT Freshman Roman Mironenko GBA: Now that your first year of college ball has finished, give us one word to summarizing the season?
RM: The word I would use to describe the season is home. This is because although I’m across the country, being able to be part of the team and being able to play the game I’ve loved since I was 3 has made me feel at home at RIT.
GBA: What’s the biggest different between high level club and college soccer?
RM: The emphasis placed on athleticism in college soccer is much higher.
GBA: What was your favorite moment in the season?
RM: Starting our first game of the season was my favorite moment of the season. It felt amazing!
GBA: What was your “welcome to college ball” moment?
RM: Seeing the size of center backs compared to them in club just a year prior. It was unusual but fun to go up against guys that could match me physically.
GBA: What’s your favorite aspect of college life at RIT?
RM: I would say anything that has to do with spending time with my teammates. It’s such a unique bond I have with all those guys.
GBA: What would you say you’d like to sharpen or improve in your game ahead of your sophomore season?
RM: I would say that I would like to sharpen my mind in terms of believing in my own abilities more. I went through some personal struggles this year and I think if I get the mental side down for next season the sky’s the limit.
