A couple of weeks ago, we went out to do some scouting at the extemely popular Manchester City Cup in San Diego,California. The allure of the Three Peat Premier League Champions hosting a big youth competiton here is the states is one thing. The fact that they regularly send their U14 Boys team to compete is another fantastic note of the importance of the event. Finally, you get to come across some of the top coaches from top collegiate programs as well as some of the top youth coaches from professional clubs as well.
During this scouting trip, I was lucky enough to meet a legendary player who spent many famous seasons at La Bombonera with Argentinian Giants, Boca Juniors! The current national team manager of Paraguay, Guillermo Barros Schelotto was in attendance to watch some matches. This was a special encounter because Barros Schelotto was a player who I watched play many many times for Boca Juniors and saw him score many big goals for the club. Not only did he do well in Argentina, he later came to Major League Soccer and led Columbus Crew to an MLS Cup title as well. A glittering career without a doubt and it was great to shake hands with such a football icon.
So as we go in search of stars of the future in the beautiful, we sometimes get blessed with the opportunity to meet some of the stars of the past. We've been able to meet many champions and here is another, Guillermo Barros Schelotto!
